Age
Make sure gift bags, food, activities and venue is age appropriate.
Organize the Fun
Mix it up and plan for short intervals in between activities. Designate adult helpers for each activity.
Watch the Clock
Set a beginning and an end time. This is especially important for drop-offs. You don't want stragglers or have the party over-extended.
Invitation Information
Yes, include all the basics-date, time, guest of honor, location. Indicate if this is a drop off or if adults should stay. Mention what's on the menu to let parents know who have children that have allergies. Don't forget the RSVP date.
Location, location, location
Book in advance and always scope out the place. Talk to coordinators to make sure they can accommodate the activities you have planned.
Know your audience...
Entertainment
Is it age appropriate? Is it too complex? Scary? Keep in mind, boys and girls may not enjoy the same thing.
Menu
Keep it simple and easy to handle. Be mindful of children with allergies.
Themes
What's a party without a theme?
The Cake
Children tend to get messy so perhaps opting for cupcakes, large cookies or ice cream can minimize the mess and time that comes with cutting and serving the cake.
Gift bags
For younger kids, make sure all giveaways don't pose a choking hazard.
Present Time
If you decide to open presents in front of everyone, make sure to watch the clock. A two year old may not have the patience than a 5 year old.
